Office Query

The message button on my work phone is blinking. But there are no new messages. I have checked five thousand times. I can’t get it to stop blinking. How do I get it to stop?

Attic

Okay, I didn't want to say anything until it was for sure... but it's still not a for sure thing yet and I can't not say anything any more.

Thursday night I found the coolest apartment. I'm just waiting to hear back from the landlords that they're not giving it to someone else... but they appear to be out this weekend. So hopefully when they get back they'll call me.

But it is very very very very very cool. And not pricey. And not filthy.

Horray!

Apartment Shopping

So yesteday... I looked at this barfo smelly apartment with a litter box in the bathroom and cat poop ON THE FLOOR.

Hoping tonight's apartment viewing is COOL. It's gotta be. Every apartment in this area can't be FILTHY, can it?

Happy Thought

I like it that paperclips are called "trombones" in French.

I just got two boxes full for my office.

Vista View

Today, after a day at the office (it seems weird to say that), I had supper with a co-worker. After that, I drove to a little town near here and then just kept on driving to the next town.

Both are picturesque, it's unfortunate I don't have a digital camera.

Yesterday I walked down the hill beside the building I'm staying in (for the time being while I look for somewhere else), to the water's edge, and there was a deer... just standing there. I thought to myself that it was mighty unfortunate that I hadn't brought my camera down with me. So I told the deer to stay there and I walked back up the hill and got it. When I came back down he was still there, chillin' like a villain, so I took a few pictures and chatted it up. He was pretty quiet, and eventually went on his way.

Tonight when I drove back I saw a mother and her fawn in one spot along the road, and another doe farther along the road. The sun was setting and the sky was purple and shades of pink.

The trees are changing colour and it's beautiful.

"When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor"
.

Hunting

Okay, so today I went and looked at an apartment. It had definite coolness potential, but was super-filthy (the previous tenant has not totally moved out or cleaned yet).

The shower is in the closet. Literally. Half of the closet is a closet, half is the shower.

The living room and kitchen are one room, and there's a fair-sized bedroom, and then there's the bathroom (sink and toilet). The bathroom was a very nice shade of blue or periwinkle of some sort. The kitcheny-part of the one room could definitely use some sort of wall paper. There's a big balcony outside. The view is okay. The bedroom had a good-sized window.

The rent is cheaper than most one-bedroom places around here from what I've found so far, but it is still more than I would like to spend. And I would have to track down furniture. And I'd be living alone. And it didn't have any laundry facilities.

I told the guy I'd think about it and let him know later this week. I am still hoping to find something better. I'd way rather live with someone. I am waiting to hear back from a lady that someone I work with knows about renting a room, she's to call me about when I can go and see it. It is farther from work but is in a bigger town so that is a good/bad thing depending on how you look at it.

I'm planning on going to church tomorrow. I've never had to church-hunt before. Could be interesting.

Duties of Adulthood

Okay, so I survived my first week of my first real job. Well, I guess it wasn't technically a whole week, since I only started on Tuesday, but it was enough.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at two apartments. Well, one's an apartment and one's a room for rent. I found another room for rent that sounded good until they got to the part where they were smokers. Ugh. I don't want to smell like and/or breathe cigarettes.

I spend a lot of the day in front of a computer screen. And a lot of the day on the phone. But thankfully sometimes I get to communicate with real-live-breathing-in-the-flesh people as well. I'd go crazy if I never saw real people.

I'm tired.

A Good Name*

I have been trying to decide on a name for my car. At first I was trying to decide whether to name it at all. I always used to say that when I got a car I was going to paint a cob of corn on the side of it and call it "Corny," but I don't really want to do that any more.

I was thinking of perhaps naming it in homage to one of the bumper stickers it came festooned with, but then I decided that would be too much referring to the characteristics of it's previous owner and not my owning of the car.

Then I was thinking I should call it "Red," like Jordan Catalano so aptly named his car in "My So-Called Life," but every time I called it that I would remember the disappointment that Angela had when she found out the song he wrote was in fact about his car and not about her.

So I still haven't decided on a name. I have decided however, that it reminds me very much of a car that could lead a second life as a cartoon character. It's just cute in that cartoon-y sort of way.

And it has a very roomy trunk. And it's shockingly clean. I'm very happy to own a car whose previous owner seems to have been immaculate in their car care tactics. In my head it's a guy who owned my car before, so I'm surprised that it's so clean.

But cleanliness is a very good thing. Thank you previous car owner.

Beep Beep

So I bought a car yesterday.

It's not the one that I originally looked at though. It's a 2-door hatchback. Not exactly what I was looking for but fun to drive and a lot cheaper to buy and insure.

It's supposed to be ready to go on Monday... so I'll be headed up to my new job then (finally! I'll be a week late). I'm not sure when I'll be able to update after that, as I definitely won't be able to afford to have the internet.

Dependency

I have been trying to post for two days now but either run out of time or get a Blogger error!

I am not at my new job yet as I am still waiting on car details! I had no idea buying a car was such a long process. I was to find out yesterday about it but then that changed to this morning, but there is only half an hour left of this morning, so now I am not sure when I shall hear. I most likely will make the move up tomorrow evening without a car, which shall be a real pain.

I am looking forward to starting... I am working at a large camp north of Toronto that is open year-round. I will be in charge of all the scheduling of groups that come in for outdoor education during the week (mostly school groups) and retreat groups during the weekends(mostly church groups I think) and getting all the paperwork having to do with that organized and completed and to the right departments and such.

Clean Floors in Car Dealerships Are A Good Thing

After a very long day of car hunting, I made an offer on a car. I won't find out until Tuesday if I get it or not though, because another couple made an offer on it about ten minutes before me! However, if their credit and financing (or whatever you call it) fall through, then I'll get it. If everything goes well for them, then the dealership will look around for another car for me. So I'll end up with something in the end that I can afford, and that is a very good thing.

I got my friend Jordan to come with me, and for which I am very thankful he did! I knew nothing about buying cars. He once sold them but got out of the business because he didn't like it. But he knows what they're talking about, so that's good.

I am exhausted. Being an adult is tiring work.

Cat Tricks

So the cat that I'm looking after this week while I'm housesitting is on a diet. She gets two scoops of hard cat food a day, equivalent to about half a cup I would guess. Her hard cat food, by the way, happens to stink to high heaven. She wakes me up in the morning to inform me that she is staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarving.

The cat food is kept on the landing.

And just now, when I walked up the stairs... there the cat was, smelling like cat food, and the lid to the cat food container was open.

But this cat food container isn't just a normal one. It's a ginormous Rubbermaid container. The cat gets into that and she can just gorge herself on the trough of freedom! The cat gets into that and she's in cat food heaven! The cat gets into that and she'll be as big as a dog!

Somehow I have to figure out how she got in it, and also, how to keep her out of it.

I wonder if this is a newly acquired cat trick, or if she does this all the time.

Lane Change

For someone who hasn't driven in a city since driving in Winnipeg once when I took Driver's Ed lessons in 1994, I think I think I have done a pretty good job this week and last.

This afternoon I went and bought pants. Work pants. Pants to wear to my first real-life adult job. Pants to wear to my first job that won't be over at the end of summer. Pants in sensible shades of khaki that aren't jeans.

And soon I'll be buying my first car. I have no idea how to buy a car.

But I'll be able to drive where ever I want and by myself. And at the same time, I'll have real-life bills. Like insurance and student loans and real rent and stuff.

Some of these things I never thought I would have to do alone.

Once again I'm going somewhere where really I know no one... but I think it should be good. It's always interesting to meet new people and make new friends.

But thank goodness for telephones and the internet and email and MSN... I don't know if I would be so enthusiastic without them.

Launderette

Copying my blogging chum Carly Bishop, the other day I signed up for my own new Photoblog like hers.

When I was updating yesterday, I noticed their plug for the photoblog Launderette... and got all excited and submitted my favourite qualifying photo.

And here it is.

News

So here we are, in this information driven, internet-centered age, where besides phoning my Mom and emailing a couple of people, my blog is where I announce I got the job!
