I am Very Sleeeeeeepy
I got back this morning at 1:30am EST, after leaving my parents' house at 8am Alberta time (is that Mountain time? I don't even know!).
A 5-hour drive plus a long airport wait plus a 4-hour flight plus more time at the airport plus a 3 hour drive (longer than usual due to the rain and snow and slush and freezing rain) has made me pretty sleepy today here at work.
And parking for Dec 17-28, even at the economy lot, and even with a coupon, was $80! There goes (most of) my Christmas money!

Flying Alberta
Okay, I arrived safely yesterday morning at 6:15am off a 6 hour bus ride... I had forgotten that it could be that dark at night. My flight was very long. Flying is so boring. Who wants to sit in close confined quarters with people you don't know?
And when we were on the ground waiting to take off, the pilot came on the intercom to say they couldn't turn on the heat until we were in the air, and we might here weird noises, because the regular power supply WASN'T WORKING and they had to use auxilary power supply to get us off the ground.
That made me feel very safe and secure.
And, bonus of all bonuses, I was lucky number 31D. Now, I'm thoroughly convinced that 31D can never be a comfortable thing, because it's the aisle seat just in front of the toilets. After we landed I thought I should have counted the number of people that used the bathroom, it could have been useful for future reference.
And, FYI, Air Canada doesn't give you snacks, just drinks. That surprised me. I hadn't flown AC since sometime in high school or maybe when I was in college in Ontario, and back then they served full meals. West Jet gives you good snack mix and cookies.
Anyways... it is nice to be home.
But dial-up (yes, it still exists!) is soooooooo slow!

Yo Yo Yo
It's 1:39am and I'm mid-journey, at the Yo's house... Heather, Sarah, and I are all sitting here on computers simultaneously. Earlier we were talking to each other on MSN.
What ever did people do before the internet?

Blogroll Review
I recently did a review/update of my blogroll, and it's been awhile since I've done a who's who so I thought that someone out there might find this alphabetical introduction useful:
People I know from "real life":
Michael Chowns, one of my favourite honourary Chums, Mike and I worked together at camp for 3 full summers (and a bit last summer as well), and then last August I had the joy of photographing his wedding to the lovely Monica.
Keith Dow I got to know through my friend and copious commentator Jodi, at Briercrest, where we all went to school. Keith ran for mayor with a Gnome campaign back in the day, now he studies philosophy in Canada's capital city of Ottawa.
Melanie Gall keeps a wonderful opera-travel-related blog... we met way back in the day when we were 16 and wanted to change the world as delegates to The Students Commission, running through the halls of Parliament and Rideau Hall. I last saw her waaay back my first year of college, but I'm sure now that we've met up again in cyberspace we'll meet again.
Robert Martinson II and I used to work on the yearbook for endless hours back in the day at Briercrest. Sometimes at 2am I would walk back to my dorm after working on layouts forever, but I was crazy back then. Now RM2 has given up his old shaggin' wagon and drives an ambulance in Nebraska.
Rob Pringle, a.k.a. "Chippy," is one of the best toilet plungers/maintenance men that I know. We worked together at camp for three summers, now he's living up university life.
Rachel Runnalls was one of my many housemates in the big brown house my first year out of dorm at school, and then my last year of school we were housemates once again in a duplex with Jodi. Then she got married, and now she's climbing the Food Services ladder at our alma matter. And she has a cool cat.
Tamara, another one of my brown house housemates from school. Funny how I used to sit in my room back then and blog away, and now everyone's doing it. ;) Tamara went on to a life in photography, and takes some pretty cool pictures. Some day we need to have a brown house reunion.
Sarah Yoshiki, the one and only. Sarah's so fun, and crazy. ;) I think she gets the crazy part from being a Yoshiki, and from being the sister of my crazy third-year dorm roommate Heather.
People I know from the internet:
Carly Bishop, whom I feel like I've know for forever in internet years, I first stumbled upon her blog from comments she left on another we both read voraciously. Originally from Seattle, she now calls Tennessee home and spends her days in university classes and working at Starbucks. She's also highly talented, I love seeing what she's been creating.
Chloe, I can't remember how I first got introduced, but she has fun little adventures and "little thoughts" in California and around the world on her beautiful blog.
funkypancake, the best photoblog I know. Dave looks at the world through interesting and fun eyes, and thankfully shares it with the world. I think it's so neat to see London and other little parts of Europe in such a fun way.
Jake Murdock has been reading my blog for as long as I can remember... and its' been fun to see his blog grow and change. And, we've had a few fun mail exchanges as well, including Swiss Miss. :)
Jason Killingsworth, although not as prolific a blog writer as he used to be, I'm glad he still has one. Jason has a great gift for the written word.
Marco Klaue is someone whose blog I stumbled into somehow this past year... he currently makes his home in Amsterdam and works at a hostel. I love his tales and thought provoking posts, he makes me want to see more of this world.
Lysha is a home-schooled teen somewhere in Ontario, and it's so awesome to read her encouraging posts and see the world through such fresh eyes. Her love of Christ challenges and encourages me to strive after Him more.
Michael Morgan is another person whom I've had on my blogroll for what seems like forever, he has a neat blog, and his thankful attitude encourages me regularly.
Neely, a lovely friend and faithful blogger. It's been so neat to see her grow these last couple of years in her blogging and life and life mission... I can't wait to see where this Journey takes her. It's been fun as well to exchange real mail with Neely, it's so cool to have "real" contact with these people I've never actually had the opportunity to meet in person.
Peter & Rebecca Wood, faithful readers and future parents! :) I can't wait to hear the news of their new little one. Peter and Becky have been reading my blog for a very long time as well, and I always enjoy their great posts and little travel adventures around the Boston area (and world!). Becky sent me some great Corn on the Cob tea towels earlier this year.
Rachel Fisher, a New Zealand blogger whom I've loved having the opportunity to read and comment and exchange Christmas cards and other mail every once in awhile with.
Sarah is someone whose blog I found very early on in my blogging days, through the "Most Recently Updated" link on Blogger. She has a very fun sense of humour, and it's neat to see another's life through humour and joy.
CC, an Australian midwife... so far from where I am and what I do, her blog is a neat peak into another part of the world, and she's linked to me for a very long time.
Sonafid, I can't remember how I first started reading her blog, but again, it's another part of the world (Ohio) and another point of view. Her sense of humour and rats make me chuckle.
Kathleen Reilly, not a regular blogger any more but the first blog I ever stumbled across (whilst looking for Caedmon's Call lyrics) and thus the inspiration for me to start this blog.
Marisa, one with a fun way of looking at the world, Marisa found me awhile ago I think, and has been a reader ever since. She's a great photographer, and I love looking at her work.
Sarah Hedges is one of the first blogs I started reading regularly, and I'd have to admit I've lapsed at reading hers on a regular basis but loved the contact that we had.
Travis Mielonen, one with whom I came in contact through Carly. Travis has had many many adventures, from missions in Poland to his recent engagement! (Hurrah!). Can't wait to see the wedding day pictures!
Ryan Wiedemaier is another friend I came into contact with through Carly. It's been neat to see him learn and grow and change over these past few years, and we used to have many humourous MSN conversations. And it was so great to see Ryan meet and marry his lovely wife Sarah this past year.
The rest of the links on my blogroll are various craft and art blogs I've started reading recently and over the past year. Take a look. :)

Shop Update
I haven't had much time (if any!) to work on fun stuff for my shop lately, due to the Christmas rush... but I did manage to photograph and put up a couple of purses this week that I finished a little while ago.
Blue Brown Bird Purse: This is a design I used for another purse (sold) and t-shirt, I love the brown felt bird. I've been thinking up a few other felt designs similar but with different animals. My sister is getting a purse pretty similar to this for Christmas, but for hers I omitted the branch for a bit of a different look.

Blue Pink Elephants Purse: Unfortunately I had a hard time photographing this one, but it's the same colour as the brownbird purse. The ribbon trim is featured not only on the flap, but also all up and down the shoulder strap and on the interior pocket. I found the trim at a neat little cottage town in a weird "Dollar and Up" store.
I have quite a few other trims I haven't had the chance to use yet, as well as a few new neat fabrics I've found at various locations. I'm also hoping to find some of my old fabric stash at my parents' when I'm home for Christmas. I am looking forward to January and having more time to sew.
Thank you to everyone who has bought things from my Etsy shop or through custom orders this past little while, you're helping make it possible for me to go home for Christmas!
Right now I still have a few things to finish for Christmas... next year in October I will not put things off!!! I don't think I'll have even half of what I had originally planned to make for gifts completed. Right now I'm in the middle of making two mitts for my Gramma, and still have a pair of potholders to start and make, as well as make a touque for my Dad. I have the prototype done... but it didn't turn out well enough to be the finished product! I was attempting to make my brother a touque with flames on it... but I'm still learning the whole switching-colours-while-knitting thing and haven't quite yet perfected the technique for such a large-scale item.
Ok, I've gotta get back to the grindstone. :)

Bowling Monday

Last night I went out for supper and bowling (5 pin, yeeeehawww) with some friends from work as one of our comrades is done at the end of this week. I'll miss her, she was pretty super fun.
P.S. Please note I was the high scorer for our little trio. I won't mention that the other 4 in our group did much higher scores!

SCREAMING
Yesterday we got this jacket (in black) for work.
They had them custom embroidered, which is nice, except it looks like this (minus the smudgies):

Note the fact that a) it makes no mention of where we work (which is ridiculous, because we wear them all over the place and advertising is always a good thing), and b) it SCREAMS out my full name. I can't say that I find it particularly appealing to have my FULL FULL on anything I wear in public.
But they are pretty sweet jackets. Very warm. With all the bells and whistles. I guess I'm ready for Antarctica now.

KFC Lips
So we had chicken wings at work for lunch today. I hate chicken wings. Especially the little ones. Like the poor little chickens. And there's totally no meat on them.
And the combination of the spicy chicken seasoning and the fatty grease and the cold chapping weather outside makes my lips feel like Kentucky Fried Chicken skin.

Sometimes I Like to Quote Other People
"There's nothing I like more than the smell of a freshly showered man. Ok, I like money, and I like finding money on the street, and then I like being given money and then being given money for returning the money I found to its rightful owner, but money just doesn't smell like a clean man. That's why I adore Anthony skin and hair care products for men."
- Oh My That's Awesome!

Finally!
Every once in awhile I like to do some sort of collaborative project... which can take various forms (postcard exchanges, "cool mail" exchanges, letter exchanges, participating in art projects, and the random interview projects [both 1 and 2]).
I think my last collaborative project that I initiated was a dismal failure, I only this week mailed out the final exchange item (I got mine in August... I'm sorry!).
But, the next one I want to be spectacular, and a spectacular success, but I'm not sure what to do yet. It definitely won't be any time this month... but hey, January's wide open!
I've seen a lot of music and craft exchanges being done, or I could always pull out the old interviews (but I think I might hold off on that one for a bit longer). Anyone have any suggestions? Anything you'd like to do?
I'd like to announce something fun around January 1st... makes 2006 fun to look forward to.

Question
Can anyone tell me why on earth I would need satellite radio? Do I not have enough technical lah-di-dahs available to me already? And what does XM stand for? Where did Sirius come from? And where is the HUGE promotional push coming from for it anyways? Like did anyone besides Martha Stewart have their own satellite radio more than a month or two ago?

I Can See the Sun!
What a nice surprise this morning on the way to work... I almost had to bust out my sunglasses once again after a bazillion days of non-stop snowing. Seriously, it had been snowing since like Sunday. Sure it's all pretty and light and fluffy snow, but driving to and from work was pretty treacherous. Monday I even got to go home early while it was still light out because of bad weather. Sure, I didn't actually make it home any earlier that I usually do, but I did get to leave 45 minutes earlier than normal!
So winter has fully arrived with a vengeance and it's almost Christmas. Rushing rushing rushing with the presents. Back in October and November it felt like I had forever still to finish all the little Christmas projects and presents. Now it's December 7 and I've still a ton to do... ugh! I've not bought too much this year for presents (am making most) due to the realities of life and the fact that I can't afford very much, and making presents is often a more fun and rewardable pasttime. Still working on/putting off making Chrismas cards. After two years of homemade ones, I don't want to stoop to buying them, but I keep making them less complex/fun and shortening the who-gets-one list, which really isn't what I want to do.
In other Christmas news, I'm leaving for Christmas in Alberta next Saturday... it's coming up so quickly. I had wanted to go later rather than earlier, but flights were way cheaper earlier rather than later, so December 17-28 I'll be west rather than east which should be quite lovely. I haven't been home to my parents' house since May '04 (over a year and a half, yikes!), and haven't seen most of my family in that long or longer, so it will be nice to be home. And my Mom says Blackey the cat is counting down the sleeps until I arrive. I'm not looking forward to all the traffic (the drive to Toronto, the flight, the bus 6 hours from Edmonton, and then the return back to Ontario). It will be nice to be home, but what if I decide I don't want to come back to Ontario?

Rainbow Beaded Necklace

I've decided to try and incorporate my crafts blog into this blog (rather than keep at two blogs), but I haven't totally decided yet.
But for the time being, this is one of the things I worked on this weekend. It's also available here.

New Month New Look
Happy winter! There seems to be snow falling every day around here, and for those of you who've been around Mikao's World for a very long time, you'll recognize the the shoutout to my snowflake heritage. And this Tiffany/Robin's Egg/Peacock blue is one of my current favourites.
I wanted to have a white background behind the posts, but I'm not html-savvy enough to figure out how to do that. I also really really wanted to incorporate Blogger comments into this new template design, but as of yet I haven't had enough time to figure out how exactly to make them jive with this template.
Details, for anyone who might be interested:
Tiffany Snowflakes, Mikao's World v. 8.0
December 2005
Modified from the Pink Designs template Color My World
Background image: blue colour
Top image: Snowflake graphic, ©2005 MJ
The snowflake graphic is from a scan of two paper snowflakes I cut out of regular white office paper with crappy office scissors. The blue background is scanned from a piece of regular blue printer paper. The snowflakes and paper were scanned on a Epson Stylus CX4600, and were cut, pasted, and altered in Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1.
The font is called "Porcelain," designed by Eduardo Recife, and is available at Misprinted Type.

No Apologies
Before she hit superstardom as Alanis Morissette, good ol' Alanis, of whom I owned two cassette tapes, had a song entitled "No Apologies" on her 1992 Now is The Time album.
That really has nothing whatsoever to do with this post, other than the fact that I'm apologizing for not really posting all too much lately... I'm working on a few projects that will soon be revealed and then you'll know where I've been.
Until then, leave some comments and let me know you've been here. I often wonder who it is exactly that have been reading this... especially those who never or rarely leave comments.

Oh Thankgoodness! Snack Time!
I just remembered I brought a pack of Golden Oreos to work this morning. It's been a long afternoon.
